May 14th-18th Highlights
This week started out well and quickly went downhill. By mid-week we were all sick with the flu. We tried pushing through and getting stuff done, but by Thursday, I realized it was a lost cause. Everyone was miserable.
We did, however, cram a lot into the first three days.
Journaling outside.
Studying ants.
We learned about the Banyan tree.
And worked on an art project.
The project took two days.
The kids really enjoyed working with oil pastels.
The beautiful banyan trees turned out amazing!!
I was so impressed with all of them.
The thing I loved the most is how different each of them turned out. I love seeing my kids being creative and getting to witness the end results!
We learned about Samuel Slater and how he memorized how the spinning machines were built and brought the plans- in his mind- to the U.S. with him. We tried memorizing a machine and then drawing a picture from memory.
Although they turned out well, I think it's safe to say that we don't have Mr. Slater's photographic memory! We also learned about Eli Whitney's Cotton Gin and cotton plantations in the south, and Lewis and Clark's exploration.
We learned our multiplication facts for 9.
And continued reading Egg and Spoon for our read-aloud. Max seems to enjoy the book, as well.
The last part of the week was all about fighting fevers and keeping food down- not that anyone felt like eating anything. Motrin and saltine crackers for the win. By the end of the weekend, everyone was starting to feel a little more like themselves. Thank goodness! Praying next week is a healthier one for us!!
