April 30th- May 4th Highlights

Such a busy week it was!!

We learned about the water cycle, types of weather, and how weather is predicted.

The kids made a cool layered art project. They could choose between the water cycle or an aquifer.

We did some fun experiments! Clouds in a Jar didn't work as well as we had hoped.

The barometer experiment was a huge success! We really like this one a lot.

Math, ELA, Moby Max and Duolingo.

Busy, busy, busy.

I had scheduled an activity for last week to go along with "people's effects on the ecosystems" but it was raining the last half of the week so we weren't able to do it. This week, however, the weather was perfect!

We took a walk around our neighborhood and picked up trash.

We wanted to do our part to keep our neighborhood clean and healthy.

It was a successful adventure!

The kids each collected a decent amount of trash.

One morning while we were doing Bible, there was a knock at the door.

It was our neighbors. They had found a baby turtle under one of their cars and thought we "might know what to do with it".

We quickly decided that this cute little critter would become our science lesson for the day. We went online and did a lot of research and determined that, as much as we wanted to keep this cute guy for a pet, he was better off in his natural habitat.

We delivered "Nerf" safely back to the creek and wished him well as he happily swam away.

In U.S. History, we learned about the Spanish Missions in North America. We learned that many missions in Florida were made from wattle and daub.

Bella suggested that we make a time-lapse video of the making of our wattle and daub project. Kyle was happy to oblige. He sat up his camera equipment and got to work.

We listened to Native American music while they made their wattle and daub buildings.

We used toothpicks and popsicle sticks for our wattle.

We covered the structure with clay- our version of daub.
The kids did great!

Continuing our study of the weather, we made a rain gauge.

We had the perfect weather to use it as soon as we finished it!

We also made a wind vane.

The kids really enjoyed this one.

In health, we learned about the brain, mouth and throat, and teeth.

I really enjoyed this week. It felt like we were really finding our groove and falling into a rhythm with our routine. It was a fun, busy, productive week!
