May 29th- June 1st Highlights
It was a short four day week, thanks to Memorial Day. Our last week of school before summer break! I am embarrassed to admit that I did not get a lot of pictures this week. The pictures I did manage to take were all thanks to Kyle reminding me.
We learned about Louis Comfort Tiffany in art this week. I read aloud to the kids as they worked on making their own Tiffany style lamps with mixed media. After I finished reading about Mr. Tiffany we listened to music that would have been popular during his lifetime. The kids really loved the music from the 1930's the most!
This project should have taken two days, but the kids were enjoying it so much that they wanted to keep working. How could I say no??
The Tiffany style lamps all turned out so great.
I love my creative kids!
In US History, we learned about the Alamo, The Pony Express, and the San Francisco Gold Rush.
We learned about Morse Code and tried our hand at decoding words.
In Ohio History, we learned about Ohio's levels of government. The kids wrote a paragraph suggesting a new rule that we should implement for our school room, and why they felt it was good to "make it a law".
We wrapped up and did a review of the human body in health, finished up Matter and Energy in science, continued to work on our math, spelling and grammar. We read books and sang songs and just had a nice, relaxing last week.
WE MADE IT!!! The last ten weeks have flown by and I have to say, I think we did pretty well. The kids were all a little sad that it was our last day, which I felt was a really good sign that we are doing what we should be. We are going to continue to work on Math and do a nature study and read tons of books over the summer. We are also going to visit grandparents and go to the pool every chance we get and relax and enjoy our break.
This school year has been absolutely crazy with the switching of schools but I feel as though we have landed in the right place. Maybe it took all of those trials and all of that craziness to make us enjoy and appreciate our homeschool journey that much more. I am looking forward to having the summer to plan for our year ahead. To feel more organized and prepared. All of our curriculum and supplies have been ordered and I can not wait to dig in!
Have a great summer!!
