April 23rd-27th Highlights

The days are getting warmer and the sun is a welcome change. We are finding ourselves outside more and more. Daily walks after lunch have become routine.

This week, in health, we learned about the reproductive system, hormones, safe touching vs. non-safe touching, abuse, and the "protect yourself rules."

For life skills, we learned how to make our own pizza, from scratch.

Everyone had a lot of fun.

They were pretty proud of themselves!

It was a yummy lesson!

We continued to monitor the progress of our seeds.

In History we read about the Pilgrims and the Mayflower, the lost colony of Roanoke, Squanto, and William Penn's great experiment.

We learned that on board the Mayflower, each person had about 18 square feet of space.  I taped off a space on the floor that was 6' x 3'. Next, I had the kids pack a bag with their most favorite possessions that they would take to the New World.

I then had them sit in the taped off space, in order to get an idea of just how small that space was. They couldn't imagine spending weeks, or months at a time, in these confined quarters!

In Science we studied populations, habitats, and niches. We learned about food chains, natural resources, and people's impact on the ecosystems.

In Ohio History we learned about The American Revolution and the kids passed their vocabulary test with flying colors!
