April 16th-20th Highlights

This week was a lot of fun! We started our human body project. I traced the kids on large kraft paper. The kids then cut them out, and we hung them on the wall.

As we learned about each organ, the kids got to color an organ printout. They then cut it out, wrote a description of the organ's function on the back, and attached it to their body cut-out.

We started our unit on Plants.

We learned about germination and started radish seeds in Ziploc bags that we taped to our sliding glass door.

It was a lot of fun to watch the process!

The kids got to paint their Mayan pottery.

Our human body project is coming along!

The kids loved coming downstairs every morning to check on the progress of our seeds.

We learned about Estevanico and Panfilo de Narvaez. We learned about the knots the men used to build rafts and decided to try them.

The figure-of-eight knot and the square knot were a little tricky, at first, but they quickly got the hang of it.

Spelling tests, vocabulary lists, writing assignments. reading, journaling, and grammar.

On Thursday we learned about our lungs and how they work. We made a working model of the lungs. It was a cool project and a great visual!

Our little seeds are really growing quickly!

On Friday we learned about the digestive system. Martha (the human torso) proved herself very useful today! The kids enjoyed removing the organs in order to study the shape of them and see just how they fit in the body.

It was such a great week! We covered so much more than is listed in this post. Lots of learning and hands-on activities!
